The city of Bradford has a proud history of welcoming and including newcomers from all corners of the world. A City of Sanctuary Bradford working group was established in July 2008, with a vision to see this culture of welcome and hospitality extended to include those seeking sanctuary in our city.

Leicester

We want Leicester to become known as a City of Sanctuary following on from the work started in Sheffield, to build on the welcome previous new communities have experienced, and for us to work together to find new ways to actively welcome those seeking asylum and those being granted refugee status

Norwich

In June 2007 Norwich became the UK’s first City of Refuge, so joining the International Cities of Refuge Network (ICORN). Through this scheme, Norwich joins an international network of cities offering residency to politically exiled writers who have been denied freedom of speech in their home countries.

Nottingham

We are working towards Nottingham becoming a City of Sanctuary. In the city and county, we already have flourishing but hard-pressed groups who help people seeking sanctuary to become part of the wider community. We want to help local groups and organisations to welcome, integrate, and appreciate people seeking refuge and asylum more actively.

Oxford

Oxford City of Sanctuary is a small but ever expanding group of people who would like to see the city grow as a place that promotes safety and inclusion to people seeking refuge and sanctuary here.

We would like to work with local and voluntary organisations, statuatory authorities, faith groups, refugee communities and organisations, schools, businesses and local services, to explore ways in which we can work together as a city to make a practical and positive difference to the lives of people who have come to us for sanctuary.

Swansea

Make Swansea a City of Sanctuary

City of Sanctuary is a national movement of local people, community groups, businesses and institutions united in a common wish to turn their city into a welcoming place for people seeking sanctuary from war or persecution. Swansea has offered a home to people who have lost their homes and families and we wish to celebrate the welcoming attitudes of Swansea people and organizations.
