Local Authority

On the 7th of December 2021 we held our annual Council of Sanctuary award celebrations where we formally recognised Lewisham Borough Council and City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council for their outstanding work to embed Sanctuary principles across the institutions.

We were joined by 45 participants from 28 Local Authorities to celebrate the impact the Network has had over the past year:

  • Total Local Authorities Engaged – 77
  • Total number of LA contacts on database- 250 
  • Total number of 1-to-1 sessions with LAs – 46 LAs, 50 meetings
  • Total number of (different) LAs which have attended at least one TNM- 54 
  • Total number formally in the network since Dec 2020- 18
  • Total Number awarded ‘Councils of Sanctuary’- 2
  • Total number of Sanctuary Motions passed- 34 (11 since 2020)

As part of the session we conducted a Visioning extercise that will inform the Network’s work over the coming year. You can view the outcomes of the session here

We also elected the Network’s Steering Group, members are as follows:
